Governor Josh Stein will address students at the upcoming graduation ceremonies of three schools in western North Carolina. The ceremonies, set for May 9 and 10, honor the achievements of students who have persevered during challenging times, including the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Governor Stein will deliver speeches at Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. He will commend the students for maintaining their resolve despite the setbacks caused by both the pandemic and the hurricane.

“These graduates, many of whom already had their education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, have demonstrated tremendous resilience in the face of adversity following Hurricane Helene,” stated Governor Stein. “I am proud to recognize their determination and grit.”

The specific events are planned as follows: On May 9, the Appalachian State University College of Arts and Sciences will hold its commencement ceremony at 5:00 PM. Inquiries are directed to news@appstate.edu. On May 10, Western Carolina University will hold its undergraduate commencement ceremony at 10:00 AM, and any questions can be sent to jduvall@wcu.edu.
