The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will hold its next meeting on April 15 and 16 at the Town of Ocean Isle Beach, located at 111 Causeway Drive. The commission said members of the public can attend either in person or online.
The meeting is important because the commission sets policies for coastal management and development, which affects communities along North Carolina’s coast. The decisions made by the commission can influence local land use plans and environmental protections.
A field trip to the Ocean Isle Beach Terminal Groin is scheduled for April 15 at 3 p.m., according to information released by the commission. The full meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on April 16, with an in-person public comment period set for 9:30 a.m. Attendees wishing to speak may sign up upon arrival.
The commission noted that people can join the full CRC meeting through DEQ’s YouTube channel. Meeting agendas and briefing materials are available on the CRC website, though officials say that agenda items may change order during proceedings.
According to the release, “The CRC establishes policies for the N.C. Coastal Management Program and adopts rules for both CAMA and the N.C. Dredge and Fill Act.” The group also designates areas of environmental concern, adopts rules for coastal development within those areas, and certifies local land use plans.
The next steps include holding this scheduled meeting where community members have an opportunity to participate directly in discussions about coastal management.
