North Carolina Board of Agriculture to meet November 17 in Raleigh

The North Carolina Board of Agriculture is scheduled to meet on Monday, November 17 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center Training Room in Raleigh.

The agenda includes requests for assessment referendums from the North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association and the North Carolina Potato Association. The board will also introduce rules, with Anna Hayworth leading this portion of the meeting.

Sean Brogan, Assistant State Forester and Division Director for Forest Management and Development at the N.C. Forest Service, will present a rule adoption and initiate rulemaking for the Prescribed Burning Cost Share Program (§02 NCAC 60B .2001).

David Hardy, Division Director for Agronomics, will present final adoptions of amendments related to soil testing services (§02 NCAC 37 .0201), plant analysis services (§02 NCAC 37 .0202), and nematode advisory services (§02 NCAC 37 .0203).

Rules readoption items are also on the agenda. Andrea Ashby, Division Director for Public Affairs, will present on the Agricultural Hall of Fame (§02 NCAC 31). Marcus Helfrich, Division Director for Standards, will discuss consumer standards (§02 NCAC 38). David Smith, Chief Deputy Commissioner, will address grain dealers (§02 NCAC 46).

Board members are expected to provide industry updates during the meeting. Other business may also be discussed.

According to information about the board, “The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members are appointed by the governor. The Commissioner of Agriculture serves as chairman of the board.”
