North Carolina Board of Agriculture to hold meeting in Raleigh on July 8

The North Carolina Board of Agriculture is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Martin Building located at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.

The agenda for the meeting includes several items. Rules introductions will cover topics such as animal disease and livestock marketing. Dr. Michael Martin, the State Veterinarian and Division Director of the Veterinary Division, will present various topics including “03 NCAC 52B: Animal Disease,” “02 NCAC 52C: Control of Livestock Disease: Miscellaneous Provisions,” “02 NCAC 52E: Marketing of Livestock,” “02 NCAC 52F: Pen Raised Quail,” “02 NCAC 52G: Biologics,” “02 NCAC 52H: Garbage Fed Swine,” and “02 NCAC 52I: Rendering Plants.”

Dr. Karen Beck, Division Director of the Meat and Poultry Inspection Division, will present on “02 NCAC 52D: Meat and Poultry Inspection.”

Facility rental rates are also on the agenda with Peter Thornton, Division Director of the Marketing Division, presenting agricultural and farmer’s market rates. Kaleb Rathbone, Assistant Commissioner WNC, will discuss WNC rental rates.

Additionally, there will be industry updates from board members along with other business matters.

The Board of Agriculture plays a critical role as a policymaking body responsible for adopting regulations for numerous programs managed by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The board members are appointed by the governor while the Commissioner of Agriculture acts as chairman.
