The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) will activate a hotline on Saturday, January 24, to help farmers dealing with damage and emergencies resulting from the recent winter storm. The toll-free hotline number is 1-866-645-9403. Live operators will answer calls on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday and Monday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said, “We know based on the current forecast the damage for agriculture could be significant. We are preparing to aid farmers that experience damage to livestock operations, crops, nurseries and infrastructure. In addition to our hotline, I encourage those who may need assistance to reach out to your local extension agents and county emergency management officials as our Emergency Programs Division communicates and coordinates assistance with them as well.”
Farmers seeking additional recovery resources can visit the department’s disaster information web page at https://www.ncagr.gov/emergency-programs/disaster-information.
