The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) will partner with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for an event at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday, June 2. This collaboration is part of the third annual Week of Action under the NC S.A.F.E. initiative.

The event will feature TSA officers promoting gun safety in airports and demonstrating how to properly pack a firearm for air travel. The focus is to address concerns over firearm-related incidents and thefts, particularly those involving children and youths.

“NC S.A.F.E. (Secure All Firearms Effectively)” was launched in response to rising deaths from firearm injuries among young people and increased cases of gun theft. The initiative aims to educate residents about safe storage practices that can prevent such tragedies.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport has already reported significant numbers of firearms detected this year, ranking fifth among U.S. airports in this regard as of February 2025. In 2024, it ranked 13th nationwide with 117 guns detected.

NC S.A.F.E.’s message emphasizes simple preventive measures like locking firearms to enhance community safety and reduce avoidable accidents.

Media representatives seeking more information or wishing to request interviews related to the event are encouraged to reach out. A comprehensive media kit containing key facts, statistics, and prerecorded video responses is available for their use.

Further details on securing firearms safely can be accessed through NC S.A.F.E.’s resources, which provide guidance on best practices without advocating specific gun laws or regulations.

North Carolinians are urged by NC S.A.F.E., established in 2023, to securely store their firearms as a means to significantly cut down on gun thefts, suicide attempts, youth violence, and improve overall community safety.
