The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) will participate in the Old Fort Trails & Trains Festival and the Marion Livermush Festival as part of its third annual Week of Action. These events, which attract residents from across North Carolina, will also see participation from various community partners.
During these festivals, NC S.A.F.E. (Secure All Firearms Effectively) will distribute free gun locks and informational materials to attendees. This initiative was launched by NCDPS in response to a rise in firearm-related injuries among children and youth, as well as an increase in firearm thefts. The goal is to promote awareness about the importance of safe firearm storage.
“Firearms are now the leading cause of injury-related death for children and youth in North Carolina,” stated a representative from NC S.A.F.E. The organization emphasizes that “taking simple steps, like locking your weapons, can make communities safer and avoid preventable tragedies.”
Media representatives seeking more information or interviews related to these events can access a full NC S.A.F.E. media kit, which includes prerecorded video responses to frequently asked questions, key facts and statistics, and other resources.
NC S.A.F.E., established in 2023, focuses on raising awareness about secure firearm storage without engaging in advocacy regarding gun laws or regulations. It aims to reduce gun thefts, suicide attempts, and youth violence through proper firearm storage practices.
North Carolinians interested in learning more about securing their firearms effectively can find additional information through NC S.A.F.E.’s resources.
