North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) officials will hold a virtual media availability on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. to discuss current measles cases in the state and emphasize the importance of staying up to date with vaccinations.
Dr. Dev Sangvai, Secretary of NCDHHS; Dr. Kelly Kimple, Director of the Division of Public Health; and Dr. Erica Wilson, Medical Director of the Medical Consultation Unit, will participate in the event. The session will also address recent updates to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s immunization schedule and rising rates of respiratory illnesses in North Carolina.
“Vaccines remain one of the most effective means available to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death. They help protect the health of children and adults, their families, and entire communities from the spread of infectious diseases,” according to NCDHHS.
Credentialed members of the media are invited to RSVP via email to receive access to the virtual meeting link.
