The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) has granted water quality certification under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act for the T-15 Reliability Project. The project, proposed by Public Services Company of North Carolina, which operates in the state as Enbridge Gas North Carolina, will move forward following this approval.
According to DWR, the decision was made after a thorough review process that included multiple opportunities for public input. Hearings were conducted on June 12 and June 24 to gather feedback regarding the certification application. In addition to these hearings, comments were also accepted by mail and email. “Responses to public comments are included in the accompanying hearing officer’s report,” stated DWR officials.
The Section 401 certification evaluates whether a project complies with state water quality standards. It examines factors such as avoidance or minimization of impacts to surface waters and wetlands. Additional information about the certification process and related documents, including the hearing officer’s report, are available on the department’s website.
