The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) is organizing a series of job fairs across eastern North Carolina to recruit seasonal workers for peanut grading during the upcoming harvest season. These positions offer an opportunity for those seeking short-term employment to contribute significantly to the state’s agricultural industry.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler stated, “These seasonal jobs are a great fit for students, retirees or anyone looking to earn extra income. Peanut grading is a vital part of maintaining the integrity of one of North Carolina’s top crops, and we encourage anyone interested to come out and learn more.”

Peanut inspectors and aides play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of North Carolina’s peanut crop. The work provides hands-on experience and insight into the state’s peanut industry. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; however, no prior experience is necessary as training will be provided. The starting pay ranges from $15.50 to $16 per hour with opportunities for overtime, working Monday through Saturday.

Job fairs are scheduled on various dates from July 14 through July 29 at multiple locations including Williamston, Ahoskie, Weldon, Edenton, Tarboro, Elizabethtown, Kinston, Warsaw, Enfield, Windsor, Jackson among others. Each event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where NCDA&CS staff will assist with applications and provide information about job responsibilities.

For further details or inquiries about these positions during the peanut harvest season from late August through November, visit www.ncagr.gov or contact the NCDA&CS Cooperative Grading Service at 252-792-1672.
