NC S.A.F.E., in collaboration with the Wake County Public School System, has announced a two-part event aimed at promoting the safe storage of firearms through its new initiative, NC S.A.F.E. for Schools. The program will provide schools with timely information and resources on firearm storage to be shared with parents.

The two-part event includes a “Parent Safety Night” on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. Attendees will have access to free gun locks and brief presentations on relevant safety topics. A press conference will occur on Thursday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., featuring remarks from North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson. The emphasis will be on the importance of communicating safe gun storage practices to parents across the state and how the NC S.A.F.E. for Schools initiative can contribute.

Both events will take place at Garner Magnet High School in Garner, North Carolina. The Parent Safety Night will be held in the auditorium, while the Press Conference will be in the Press Center. Attendees, especially press members, are advised to arrive early for registration procedures, which include scanning a QR code and presenting a photo ID.

In attendance at the Parent Safety Night will be representatives from NC S.A.F.E., the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the Wake County Public School System, the North Carolina Department of Justice, the Garner Police Department, and other local and state organizations.

Key speakers at the press conference include Wiliam Lassiter, the deputy secretary of the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention from the NCDPS; North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson; Garner Deputy Chief of Police Chris Adams; Tyler Swanson, vice-chair of the Wake County Board of Education; Teresa Jones, president of the Wake County PTA association; Dr. Robert P. Taylor, superintendent for the Wake County Public School System; and Matt Price, principal of Garner Magnet High School.
