NC Halal recalls lamb carcasses over record issues

NC Halal, based in Mount Olive, has announced a voluntary recall of all whole lamb carcasses processed on June 25, 2025. The decision comes after inspectors from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Meat and Poultry Inspection Division found that processing records lacked required product temperatures as outlined in the establishment’s food safety plan.

Dr. Karen Beck, director of the NCDA&CS Meat and Poultry Inspection Division, stated: “Inspectors with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Meat and Poultry Inspection Division noted that processing records did not include product temperatures as required by the establishment’s food safety plan.”

The recall is classified as Class II, indicating a remote probability of adverse health consequences from consuming these products. Customers who have purchased these items are advised against consumption.

The affected products include NC Halal, LLC whole lamb carcasses. These were distributed from the facility located at 6301 U.S. Highway 13 South, Mount Olive to individuals, local buyers, and small halal butcher shops in the Raleigh-Durham area. They bear an NCDA inspection legend with establishment number P-378.

Consumers are instructed to dispose of these products or return them to their place of purchase. For further inquiries about NC Halal products, Hamza Zouhri, the establishment owner, can be contacted at 919-638-5921 during business hours from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products so far. Those concerned about potential injury or illness should seek advice from a healthcare provider.
