A series of large-scale murals have been installed at Hub RTP, a new downtown district in Research Triangle Park. The project, known as the Hub RTP Outdoor Murals Project, was organized by the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina. The initiative aims to transform public spaces into art experiences that reflect the park’s focus on innovation and community.

The project began in 2024 and brought together artists to add color to Hub RTP’s east campus, which includes Horseshoe RTP—a mixed-use development designed for both residents and workers. As Hub RTP develops further, these murals are intended to help make the neighborhood a more attractive destination.

So far, five murals have been completed out of a planned six. The works include “Desire Path” by Britt Flood, “plant.ed” by Mayanthi Jayawardena, “The Great Blue Heron” by Taylor White, “Aura of the Wild” by Valentin Ramirez, and “BLOOM ON” by Liz Haywood.

Liz Haywood commented on her participation: “As a North Carolina muralist whose work is rooted in celebrating nature, color and community, it’s an honor to be part of the Hub RTP Outdoor Murals Project,” said Haywood. “BLOOM ON envisions a future where technology and nature work hand in hand, showcasing the beauty that emerges when humans, pollinators and technology come together to foster growth. It’s inspiring to see our state’s creative energy united in one vibrant, visionary place, and I hope these murals spark joy and bold ideas in our community for years to come.”

The murals are open for public viewing without charge. In connection with World Art Drop Day on September 2, visitors are invited to participate in Art Uncovered: A Hub RTP Scavenger Hunt. Participants can explore the murals and share their discoveries online. More information about this event can be found at https://hub.rtp.org/event/art-uncovered.
