Mayors in several cities across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee have declared December 12, 2025, as “Share the Warmth Day.” The proclamation aims to raise awareness and encourage support for Piedmont Natural Gas’s Share the Warmth program, which provides emergency assistance to people struggling with their energy bills.

The cities participating include Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Wilmington in North Carolina; Greenville in South Carolina; and Nashville in Tennessee. Through this initiative, local leaders hope to inspire both customers of Piedmont Natural Gas and the broader community to contribute to the program during the winter season.

Share the Warmth is designed to help individuals pay their energy bills regardless of whether they use propane, electricity, or natural gas. Assistance is available throughout the year. The program collects donations through various means: customers can enroll in a Round Up program that rounds up their monthly bill to the nearest dollar, with all proceeds going directly to Share the Warmth. Additional funding comes from community donations and direct contributions from Piedmont Natural Gas itself.

Brian Weisker, senior vice president and president of Piedmont Natural Gas, said: “Piedmont’s Share the Warmth program has supported our most vulnerable neighbors since 2003. We chose December 12, or 12/12, as ‘Share the Warmth Day’ to remind us that for no more than $12 a year, each of us can make a meaningful difference. And if you need help today, Share the Warmth funds are available. Too many families face difficult choices when the weather turns cold. We want anyone who needs assistance with their energy bills to know: Piedmont is here to keep you warm and supported, all year long.”

All money collected through Share the Warmth stays within local communities where it was donated. Funds are distributed by nonprofit partners directly to those who need them most.

Customers interested in supporting Share the Warmth can sign up by texting SHARE to 21209 (message and data rates may apply), visiting piedmontng.com/ShareTheWarmth and enrolling online, filling out a form on their bill statement, or calling Piedmont at 800-752-7504. Non-customers can also visit piedmontng.com/ShareTheWarmth for information on making individual contributions.

Piedmont Natural Gas serves over 1.2 million customers across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee as part of Duke Energy’s operations.
