The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries has issued a reminder for commercial fishing, seafood dealer, and for-hire license and permit holders. The agency is encouraging early renewal of licenses and permits, which are set to expire on June 30, 2025. By renewing in May, fishermen can avoid potential long wait times anticipated as the deadline approaches at the end of June.

To further simplify the renewal process, the Division has provided renewal packets to individuals who opted for mail renewal last year. These packets consist of an application and a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope. License holders who did not receive a packet must renew in person, though they can request to receive one for future renewals.

For further assistance, license holders are encouraged to contact their local license office by phone or via email at License@deq.nc.gov. Office hours for inquiries are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Specific contact information and addresses for the Division of Marine Fisheries headquarters and various district offices are provided for those needing assistance. As the 2025 licenses and permits will expire on June 30, the new 2026 licenses will be effective starting July 1.

It’s important to note that the renewal timelines differ for Coastal Recreational Fishing Licenses, which expire according to the purchase date. These can be renewed online, by contacting the N.C. Wildlife Resource Commission, or at various outdoor retail locations.
