Lenovo announced on Apr. 13 that Sergio Buniac, Senior Vice President and Motorola President, will take on a new role as leader of the Lenovo Latin America sales geography across all devices and infrastructure, starting July 1. Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo Intelligent Devices, will serve as interim Motorola President until a successor is appointed.
The company said this move is part of its longer-term leadership succession plan and demonstrates an ongoing focus on innovation and global growth. By appointing Buniac to oversee the region, Lenovo aims to strengthen coordination between business groups in Latin America to improve go-to-market strategies, customer engagement, and competitiveness.
Buniac has spent three decades at Lenovo in various sales, marketing, and supply chain roles throughout Latin America. He also led the smartphone business globally for eight years. The company said his continued presence in Latin American markets during his tenure as Motorola Global President provided him with deep insight into regional dynamics. According to Lenovo’s statement: “Sergio brings a unique combination of global leadership experience and deep regional insight, his leadership will help us move faster, compete even more effectively, and deliver greater value across the region.” Matt Zielinski, Executive Vice President and President of International Markets at Lenovo added: “This shift in Latin America marks a significant milestone in strengthening how we go to market globally,
operate
as one team, and deliver for our customers and partners.”
Buniac commented on his new position by saying: “Leading our mobile business has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I am proud of Motorola’s momentum. I am energized by the opportunities ahead and to see where we can take our company next.” He continued: “With AI moving into real-world deployment, customers expect results. A strong foundation, full stack portfolio and global reach set us apart, enabling us to accelerate Lenovo growth in the region and continue delivering meaningful experiences to our customers.”
Lenovo stated it plans to leverage Motorola’s brand strength while expanding its ecosystem through what it describes as one of the industry’s widest portfolios. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly important within technology ecosystems—particularly through smartphones—the company said it looks forward to appointing a new Motorola president who will lead through this evolving era.
