Lenovo has announced an expansion of its global research and development network, adding new facilities in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region. The company will establish three Lenovo AI Technology Centers (LATC) in Edinburgh and London in the United Kingdom, as well as a lab in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is set to open later this year. Additionally, Lenovo has launched a Digital Trust Lab in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The LATC initiative is designed to enhance Lenovo’s hybrid-AI strategy by focusing on real-world applications of foundation models and developing agentic AI systems that can collaborate across various environments. These efforts aim to shape future AI-powered computing solutions.
Dr. Tolga Kurtoglu, Lenovo Group’s Chief Technology Officer since July 2024, oversees the broader R&D team’s AI innovation strategy. He commented on the expansion: “As Lenovo expands its global R&D footprint, we’re deepening our commitment to advancing responsible and trustworthy innovation. The new LATC facilities reflect our belief that breakthroughs in AI must be built on a foundation of security, privacy, and collaboration. By bringing together world-class researchers, engineers, and academic partners, we’re accelerating the development of technologies that not only push the boundaries of what’s possible but do so in ways that earn and maintain trust in the benefits of AI to society.”
The LATC is led by Dr. Anwar Ghuloum, who brings experience from Intel, META, Google, and Nvidia. He directs foundational technology development for personal and enterprise agentic AI across devices and cloud infrastructure. Dr. Ghuloum said: “LATC is central to Lenovo’s ambition to lead in the era of hybrid AI. By bringing together world‑class research, advanced model development, and deep collaboration with universities and industry, we’re building the foundational technologies that will power the next generation of agentic AI.”
The Digital Trust Lab in Tel Aviv focuses on security, privacy, and trust within Lenovo’s Hybrid AI framework. This lab extends Lenovo’s work following the 2023 opening of its Cybersecurity Innovation Center at Ben-Gurion University.
These developments are part of Lenovo’s ongoing investment in research aimed at supporting its hybrid-AI vision worldwide.
