Honeywell announced that its modular liquefied natural gas (LNG) pretreatment technology and Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) will be implemented at the AMIGO LNG export terminal in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. The facility is a joint venture between Epcilon LNG LLC, based in Texas, and Singapore’s LNG Alliance Pte Ltd.
The project aims to improve production efficiency and contribute to global energy security as well as emission reduction goals. Honeywell’s modular pretreatment technology is designed to ensure that exported LNG meets industry standards by removing impurities from natural gas before liquefaction. This process is intended to help extend equipment lifespan and minimize unexpected downtime.
According to Honeywell, the modular design allows for faster installation and easier expansion of the facility while reducing construction risks and increasing speed to market. The company’s ICSS automation suite and Experion distributed control system will provide enterprise-wide control of the AMIGO LNG terminal. These systems are also equipped with advanced fire, gas, and surveillance safety features intended to detect hazardous conditions and trigger emergency responses in real time.

The development of the AMIGO LNG terminal supports Mexico’s Plan Sonora strategy. This plan seeks to make Sonora a regional center for energy security and global LNG trade while promoting local economic growth within Mexico. The export facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 with a planned capacity of up to 7.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Honeywell reports that its technologies are used throughout much of the world’s existing LNG infrastructure: about 40% of global LNG undergoes Honeywell pretreatment processes; over 80 baseload trains use its automation systems; two-thirds of current worldwide liquefaction capacity utilizes its technology.
