Honeywell has been chosen to upgrade the fire alarm system at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 4. The terminal, which contains over 80 airline gates across eight concourses, will receive an updated Honeywell fire alarm system originally installed in 2003.

The new system will include automated devices and modules that meet current UL safety standards. Upgrades are aimed at optimizing emergency response and improving overall system performance. A digital dashboard will be introduced to provide better operational insights, with the goal of lowering maintenance costs and reducing manpower requirements amid a shortage of skilled labor.

Operators will benefit from modernized maps through the Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) management system. These improvements are designed to help visualize alarm locations more effectively and guide emergency responders with greater accuracy. The EBI platform is expected to ensure ongoing protection for Terminal 4, which serves an average of 94,000 passengers each day, during the course of the upgrade work. Project completion is scheduled for 2026.

“This award to enhance the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s fire alarm system reflects our commitment to delivering innovative and reliable automation solutions that protect this busy airport while also helping ensure uninterrupted operations for passengers and staff,” said Sudhakar Janakiraman, President, Honeywell Building Solutions. “We are honored to work on this vital safety initiative that builds on a long-standing and valued relationship.”

According to Honeywell, this project highlights its expertise in managing complex public safety initiatives as well as its focus on automation, aviation advancements, and energy transition efforts.
