Honeywell announced that TruAlt Bioenergy Limited will adopt Honeywell’s Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) process technology to produce 80,000 tons per year of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. This move is part of efforts to establish one of the country’s first dedicated SAF production facilities using ethanol as a feedstock.

The ETJ technology from Honeywell UOP allows producers to convert ethanol from renewable sources into SAF, offering a way to reduce carbon emissions from air travel. The process can be integrated into existing ethanol production systems and is also capable of producing renewable diesel, which supports lower emissions in road transport.

Ranjit Kulkarni, Vice President and General Manager – Honeywell Process Technology, India, stated: “Our proven Ethanol-to-Jet technology provides a cost-efficient pathway for SAF production and will help TruAlt Bioenergy advance its net-zero ambitions while creating value across the agricultural and energy ecosystems. This agreement marks another milestone in Honeywell’s journey to help India build self-reliance in sustainable fuel production.”

The partnership aligns with the Indian government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by encouraging domestic biofuel output. Once operational, the facility is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions from aviation and increase demand for bioethanol, potentially raising farmer incomes.

Vijay Nirani, Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, said,“Our agreement with Honeywell is a defining step in TruAlt’s journey to help build India’s sustainable aviation fuel ecosystem. By leveraging Honeywell technology, we aim to create a scalable, ethanol-based SAF pathway that connects India’s farmers directly to the global aviation decarbonization agenda. Through this project, we are strengthening our conviction that India’s energy transition must be rooted in domestic feedstocks, strong industrial capability and inclusive economic value creation without external dependence. Additionally, it leverages India’s unique geographic and demographic advantages to progressively position the country as a major global hub for sustainable aviation fuel production.”

Honeywell offers solutions for renewable fuels using various feedstocks and provides modular renewable fuels technology that can be installed at refineries more quickly than traditional methods. More information about Honeywell can be found at https://www.honeywell.com/us/en/press
