The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services will hold Hogtoberfest, a fall festival celebrating pork and the 30th anniversary of the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Colfax.
Hogtoberfest marks both North Carolina Pork Month and three decades since the opening of the market. The festival aims to highlight the role pork plays in North Carolina’s culture and economy while recognizing farmers and producers who have contributed to the market’s reputation as a reliable source for local products.
Attendees can expect live music, food trucks, offerings from local breweries and wineries, Got to Be NC vendors, and educational activities suitable for all ages. Additional details about vendors and activities are available on the market’s Facebook page.
“This is a special celebration of not just pork, but the people and businesses who have made the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market a community centerpiece for the last 30 years,” said Katie Williams, pork marketing specialist at NCDA&CS. “We are looking forward to welcoming families and visitors to enjoy Hogtoberfest and all that makes North Carolina agriculture a thriving industry.”
North Carolina is currently ranked third in pork production nationwide. The state’s pork industry supports about 42,000 full-time jobs and is its second largest agricultural sector, contributing an estimated $10.8 billion in economic impact to rural communities.
The Piedmont Triad Farmers Market operates daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., located at 2914 Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax, near Exit 208 off Interstate 40 between Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Information about upcoming events and seasonal produce can be found on the market’s website or Facebook page.
