Today, Governor Josh Stein addressed the Emerging Issues Forum at NC State University, focusing on energy priorities and urging Congress to lower consumer costs by safeguarding clean energy projects in North Carolina.

“North Carolina is a leader in the clean energy economy, and we are home to more than 20,000 clean energy jobs and $24 billion in clean energy investments,” stated Governor Stein. “Our state is well-positioned to continue that success, and I urge Congress to protect the clean energy investments that have contributed to our state’s prosperity.”

Governor Stein emphasized his commitment to advancing North Carolina’s clean energy sector. He recently participated in the opening of Boviet Solar’s new solar module manufacturing facility in Greenville, which has already generated nearly 400 jobs with more expected. In his second recovery budget announcement last week, he proposed $239 million for strengthening critical infrastructure in western North Carolina, including projects aimed at disaster prevention.

The potential repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act by Congress could lead to significant job losses and reduced investments in North Carolina’s clean energy sector by 2030. This action might also increase electricity costs for families by $200 annually. Governor Stein is calling on North Carolina’s congressional delegation to maintain the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy tax credits as a means of reducing costs for residents.
