Today, Governor Stein enacted six bills into law.

In a statement regarding House Bill 546, Governor Stein highlighted its impact on North Carolina’s Medicaid program. The bill extends postpartum coverage for women to 12 months, enhances telehealth services accessibility, and introduces a new statewide Medicaid health plan for children and young adults in the child welfare system. “However, much is still needed from our state legislature when it comes to protecting Medicaid,” said Governor Stein. He emphasized the need for a full rebase to maintain current services and efforts to guard against federal cuts. “To protect health care for more than 3 million North Carolinians on Medicaid, state legislators will need to take a hard look at our Medicaid laws, our state budget, and our long-term revenue requirements.” He expressed optimism about working with Senator Berger, who has committed to addressing implementation issues.

Regarding House Bill 559, Governor Stein stated his anticipation of legislative confirmation of his appointments to the Building and Residential Code Councils. This step is crucial for modernizing codes as North Carolina experiences rapid growth. “North Carolina is the third-fastest growing state in the nation,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of swift action particularly in western North Carolina.

Additionally, Governor Stein signed Senate Bill 706, Senate Bill 664, House Bill 210, and House Bill 23 into law.
