Governor Josh Stein attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s new facility in Mebane, emphasizing North Carolina’s position in the biotechnology sector.
“Thermo Fisher Scientific’s new facility strengthens North Carolina’s leadership in the biotech sector and strengthens our domestic supply chain,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I am proud to welcome this global company to Mebane as it expands its North Carolina presence with 100 good-paying jobs.”
The new site will focus on manufacturing laboratory pipette tips, supporting a steady domestic supply for diagnostic testing and scientific research. The project is expected to generate over 100 jobs locally and was supported by a $192.5 million investment from both the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
North Carolina’s life sciences industry continues to expand, employing more than 225,000 people and contributing approximately $88.3 billion each year to the state economy. Since January, Governor Stein has reported over $19 billion in new investments leading to more than 25,000 additional jobs across North Carolina.
