Today, Governor Josh Stein, alongside educators, advocates, and State Employees Credit Union (SECU) members, initiated the annual Governor’s School Supply Drive in North Carolina. Governor Stein contributed to the drive with a donation of binders, a calculator, sticky notes, and tissues.

Governor Stein emphasized the importance of well-equipped classrooms for students’ success. “North Carolina’s students need classrooms that are well-equipped,” he stated. He encouraged residents to support the initiative by donating supplies at local SECU branches.

SECU Chief Delivery Officer Jamie Applequist expressed satisfaction in participating in this statewide effort. “We are pleased to once again join in this effort to make a positive difference for our teachers and students all across the state,” Applequist said. With branches throughout all 100 counties in North Carolina, SECU serves as collection sites for the drive. Applequist noted that public school employees and their families form a significant part of SECU’s membership base.

The partnership between the Office of the Governor, SECU, and Communities in Schools of North Carolina has been ongoing for several years. The initiative encourages donations from citizens to supply local classrooms with necessary materials. SECU branches host donation boxes and promote contributions among customers. Additionally, donations are collected by the Office of the Governor and cabinet agencies during the drive period.

This year’s supply drive is scheduled from June 30th to August 1st. The list of requested supplies includes various types of paper, pens and pencils, crayons and markers, dry erase markers, USB flash drives, spiral notebooks, sanitizing wipes, tissues, and paper towels.
