Governor Josh Stein met with business leaders in Davidson on Apr. 16 to tour Trane Technologies’ training facility for energy-efficient HVAC systems and discuss North Carolina’s position in the clean energy economy. The event focused on how clean energy availability is influencing business decisions and supporting economic growth across the state.

The discussion comes as more companies are seeking reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy sources to meet their operational needs. Governor Stein said, “North Carolina is leading the way in building a clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs and keeps costs down for families.” He added that advanced manufacturing firms like Trane Technologies are helping to build a more sustainable future for North Carolinians.

Business leaders echoed these sentiments. Dave Regnery, chair and CEO of Trane Technologies, said, “At Trane Technologies, we’ve shown that sustainability and strong business performance go hand in hand. Our customers need solutions that improve energy efficiency, lower operating costs and help them meet their sustainability commitments.” Shelly Cayette-Weston of Hornets Sports & Entertainment highlighted recent investments at Spectrum Center: “With our recent arena renovations, we invested in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and smart infrastructure because they strengthen operations…and enhance the fan experience.”

Other participants included Jerry Williams of SAS Institute who said stable policies are essential: “As electricity demand continues to grow, the state must prepare its grid with modern technologies…that ensure reliability and encourage innovation.” Ryan Rose from Scout Motors stated: “Companies like ours are increasingly choosing to invest in states that prioritize clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy both to meet our business needs and for our employees who depend on resilient…energy where they live and work.” Mandi McKay from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. emphasized long-term sustainability: “Smart, forward-looking policies can help modernize North Carolina’s grid…”

Stein also hosted a roundtable with representatives from major employers such as American Airlines and Duke Energy—companies with net zero or other sustainability targets—to discuss how access to clean power shapes investment decisions. According to the official website, the Office of the Governor serves all of North Carolina by executing state laws as chief executive while leading policy initiatives through directing budgets.

Since taking office as the 76th governor of North Carolina according to official records, Stein has announced over $4.9 billion in new investments tied to clean technology firms globally—including JetZero’s major job commitment at Piedmont Triad International Airport—and has overseen programs like Energy Saver NC which aims to help households save about $1,000 annually through home efficiency upgrades.

The Office of the Governor also serves as commander-in-chief of the National Guard according to official information while holding authority over executive appointments. These roles allow influence over policy areas including those related to climate action by directing budgets or granting pardons as described by official sources.

Looking ahead, Stein remains committed to expanding access to affordable renewable power while maintaining economic competitiveness for businesses throughout North Carolina.
