Governor Josh Stein has announced new appointments to the District Court, filling vacancies created by recent retirements and elections. Jennifer Wells has been appointed to serve Judicial District 1, which covers Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties. This appointment follows the retirement of Judge Edgar Barnes.
Wells previously worked as an Assistant Public Defender in the Office of the First Judicial District Public Defender. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University and a Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law.
Cameron “Chip” Harrison has been appointed to serve Judicial District 38 in Gaston County. He steps into this role following Judge Craig Collins’s election to the Superior Court. Harrison’s prior roles include serving as an Assistant Public Defender with the Gaston County Public Defender’s Office and practicing law at the Law Office of Aaron Bradshaw. Additionally, he taught Business Law at Alamance Community College. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University.
Governor Stein commented on these appointments: “Given their experience and record as public defenders, I am proud to appoint Jennifer and Cameron to the District Courts,” adding that he believes they will be “fair and hard-working jurists” who will serve well in their new positions.
