The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) will join forces with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist to host the third annual NC S.A.F.E. Week of Action event in Winston-Salem. Scheduled for Sunday, June 1, from 1 to 4 p.m., this Summer Safety Fest aims to bring the community together at 1230 Alder St., Winston-Salem, NC.

Atrium Health is organizing the event to promote a safe start to summer by distributing free bike helmets, life jackets, gun locks, and other safety items. This initiative aligns with NCDPS’s NC S.A.F.E. program, which was launched in response to a concerning rise in child and youth deaths due to gun injuries and increased gun thefts in North Carolina.

NC S.A.F.E. (Secure All Firearms Effectively) focuses on educating residents about the importance of secure firearm storage. The initiative highlights that firearms are now the leading cause of injury-related death among children and youth in the state. By taking straightforward precautions like locking weapons, NC S.A.F.E. aims to enhance community safety and prevent tragedies.

Media representatives seeking further information or interviews related to this event are encouraged to reach out for inquiries. A comprehensive media kit containing prerecorded video responses, key facts, statistics, and additional resources is available for members of the press.

North Carolinians interested in learning more about safe firearm storage can access resources through NC S.A.F.E., which emphasizes that securing firearms can significantly reduce gun thefts, suicide attempts, and youth violence while increasing family and community safety across North Carolina. Established in 2023, NC S.A.F.E. provides guidelines on best practices for firearm storage without aligning with any advocacy-based initiatives regarding gun laws or regulations.
