A wildfire has erupted near the Alarka Highlands in Swain County, currently spreading over 911 acres with no containment reported. Local authorities have issued evacuation notices for several areas, specifically affecting residents on Long Creek Lane, Unahala Creek Lane, and Alarka Highlands Drive.

Swain County Emergency Management is overseeing the evacuation process to ensure public safety. “Swain County Emergency Management has evacuation notices in place,” stated a spokesperson for the emergency management team.

In response to the growing threat, the Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team is set to take over the management of the incident from Friday, March 28 at 8 a.m., providing additional support and coordination.

This development forms part of ongoing efforts to control the spread of the fire and protect affected communities.
