Duke Energy has expressed appreciation to its customers in North Carolina and South Carolina for reducing electricity use during an unusually cold Monday morning. The company said that customer efforts to lower energy consumption helped ease the strain on the power grid and supported reliable service during one of the coldest mornings of the season.

To help manage winter electricity usage and costs, Duke Energy offers flexible payment options such as installment plans, selecting a payment date, or extending due dates. Additional assistance is available through programs like Share the Light Fund and community resources found via 211.org. Customers can also explore different rate options, enroll eligible smart thermostats for bill rebates, and monitor their energy usage online or through Duke Energy’s mobile app.

Duke Energy serves about 4.7 million electric customers in North Carolina and South Carolina—3.8 million in North Carolina and nearly 860,000 in South Carolina.

Its utilities serve approximately 8.6 million customers across six states with a total owned capacity of 55,100 megawatts of power generation. Additionally, its natural gas businesses provide service to 1.7 million customers across five states.
