Duke Energy has restored power to over 73,000 customers in Indiana following severe storms that resulted in more than 100,000 outages across nearly all of its 28 service districts. As of early morning, approximately 31,000 customers remained without power.
The storm brought wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, leading to fallen trees and downed power lines. Duke Energy mobilized over 500 additional crew members to aid local teams in the most affected areas, including Bartholomew, Hamilton, Monroe, Union, and Vigo counties.
Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, expressed gratitude for customer patience: “I want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as our crews work quickly and safely to restore power.”
The company is focusing on repairing large infrastructure first to restore power efficiently and safely. Essential services such as hospitals are prioritized before moving on to neighborhood repairs.
Customers can report outages via the Duke Energy website, mobile app, text message by texting OUT to 57801, or by calling their automated system at 1.800.343.3525.
Duke Energy Indiana serves about 920,000 customers with approximately 6,300 megawatts of electric capacity. Nationwide, Duke Energy provides electricity and natural gas services across several states and is investing in energy grid upgrades and cleaner energy sources.
