Duke Energy has successfully restored power to nearly 99,700 customers in Indiana following severe storms that caused widespread outages on Wednesday. The storms, which included wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, left approximately 16,800 customers without power as of Thursday afternoon.
Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, stated, “We’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.” He noted the challenges due to the storm’s impact across almost all 28 districts served by Duke Energy in Indiana. A workforce of around 1,000 is actively working on restoring power.
The company projects that most remaining outages will be resolved by midnight in regions such as Attica and Aurora. Areas like Avon/Plainfield are expected to have service restored by noon Friday. Regions including Bedford and Bloomington may see restoration by 6 p.m. Friday, while Columbus is anticipated to be back online by midnight Friday.
Duke Energy prioritizes repairing large infrastructure first during restorations to return power efficiently and safely to the largest number of customers. Essential services like hospitals receive priority before crews address individual neighborhoods and homes.
Customers can access outage updates via Duke Energy’s interactive map or report outages through various channels such as texting OUT to 57801 or using the Duke Energy mobile app.
