Duke Energy announced on Apr. 7 that it will donate $1,000 to its Share the Light Fund agencies each time the Tampa Bay Rays win a regular-season game throughout the 2026 baseball season. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance to Florida customers facing difficulties paying their energy bills.
The company said this effort is designed to support families in need across its service area. In the previous baseball season, Duke Energy contributed $82,000 through this program, helping customers manage their utility expenses.
Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, said, “We are always looking for ways to support our customers, and partnerships with organizations like the Tampa Bay Rays give a great opportunity to reach more families in need. Each season we look forward to cheering on the Rays while giving back to the community we serve.”
The Share the Light Fund receives contributions from employees, retirees, customers and shareholders of Duke Energy. These donations are matched annually by Duke Energy Foundation up to $500,000. All funds are distributed monthly through social service agencies within Duke Energy’s 35-county Florida service territory.
Cumulatively, nearly $30.5 million in energy bill assistance has been provided in Florida through various programs supporting almost 31,000 customers. The company also offers resources such as Usage Alerts and other bill management tools aimed at helping consumers track and adjust their energy usage before receiving their bills.
Duke Energy Florida supplies electricity across a 13,000-square-mile area serving about two million residential, commercial and industrial customers with an energy capacity of 12,500 megawatts.
