As colder weather is expected to move in next week, Duke Energy is encouraging customers to take steps to manage their energy use and reduce costs. The company provided several recommendations for keeping heating bills down as temperatures fall below seasonal norms.

Duke Energy advises customers to set thermostats to the lowest comfortable setting, seal leaks and insulate homes, change air filters regularly, let sunlight warm living spaces during the day, and operate ceiling fans clockwise in winter. These actions can help households maintain comfort while lowering energy consumption.

Customers enrolled in Duke Energy’s efficiency programs have saved more than $1 billion on their bills since 2019. The company offers a free home energy assessment that includes an energy efficiency kit, personalized usage report, and expert advice. Rebates are available through the Smart $aver program for those upgrading equipment or insulation.

Duke Energy also provides bill credits for customers who enroll smart thermostats and water heaters in its Power Manager/EnergyWise Home program by shifting usage to off-peak times. Income-qualified customers may receive free upgrades such as insulation or HVAC repairs through weatherization assistance programs.

More information about these tips and programs can be found at duke-energy.com/SeasonalSavings.

Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric utility customers across six states and operates with 55,100 megawatts of capacity. Its natural gas utilities reach 1.7 million customers in five states. The company continues investing in grid upgrades and cleaner energy sources including renewables, nuclear power, natural gas, and storage technologies.
