Duke Energy has announced increased incentives and expanded eligibility for its energy efficiency and demand response programs in South Carolina. The changes, which were approved by the Public Service Commission of South Carolina, took effect on August 1, 2025.

“Some of our program incentives have doubled – or even tripled – making now an even more rewarding time to make energy efficiency improvements or enroll in programs at your home or business to help save,” said Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president. “With the recent enactment of the S.C. Energy Security act, our state’s leaders have also signaled the importance of these types of programs and offered a roadmap for us to potentially expand similar offerings in the future.”

For residential customers, enhancements include a free home energy assessment that now comes with customized products such as smart power strips, efficient showerheads, and caulking installed during the visit. Rebates for upgrades like insulation, water heaters, and smart thermostats have been expanded through the Smart $aver program. Bill credits for shifting energy use have increased, with new incentives available for electric water heater owners through Power Manager and EnergyWise Home. More details about these residential programs can be found on the Duke Energy website.

Business customers will also see higher incentives. The PowerShare program has raised capacity credits from $3.50 to $5 per kilowatt for certain options that decrease energy use. The EnergyWise Business program has similarly increased customer incentives. On average, incentive amounts for many business energy efficiency programs have risen by 20% to 25%. Assistance programs have been updated as well to provide more support in 2025 for qualifying customers who need help managing their energy bills. Customers facing financial difficulties may qualify for aid from government or nonprofit sources covering utility bills and other household expenses. Duke Energy also offers flexible payment arrangements and resources such as the Share the Light Fund to assist those experiencing uncertainty. Details about these options are available at duke-energy.com/SummerSavings.

Duke Energy serves millions of electric and natural gas customers across several states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The company is pursuing a clean energy transition with goals of net-zero methane emissions from its natural gas operations by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2050. It continues to invest in grid upgrades and cleaner generation technologies.
