Duke Energy is dedicating efforts towards environmental sustainability in South Carolina through the distribution of $375,000 in grants during Earth Month. This funding will support 24 nonprofit and governmental organizations focused on park management, tree planting, trail upkeep, and litter prevention throughout the state.
Throughout April, Duke Energy employees participated in various initiatives, including five organized trash pickups. The initiative emphasizes the company’s commitment to preserving the state’s natural resources, aiming to make South Carolina a thriving and livable environment despite the rapid population growth.
Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, Tim Pearson, emphasized the company’s responsibility: “The natural beauty of South Carolina draws new residents and businesses to our state every year, and it’s important for companies like ours to work alongside our communities to protect, enhance and promote these tremendous assets of the Palmetto State.”
Duane Parrish, the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism executive director, acknowledged the past challenges faced in the Upstate: “We are incredibly grateful to Duke Energy, who has been an amazing partner to South Carolina State Parks for many years. They have a heart for what we do in State Parks, and their generous support is pivotal in helping us protect, advance, and share our treasured places with visitors.”
Aaron Davis, the executive director of Trees Upstate, noted Duke Energy’s continued support: “For the past nine years, Duke Energy has helped thousands of Upstate residents save electricity costs through this really ‘cool’ Energy Savings Tree Giveaway program. Their generosity and partnership show how much Duke Energy values nonprofits, communities, and our wonderful natural resources.”
Funding recipients include a range of entities from South Carolina State Parks to local municipalities such as the City of York and Marion County. The Duke Energy Foundation, which provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support across the southeastern United States, funds this initiative.
