Duke Energy Foundation has announced an investment of $789,000 to support 23 colleges, universities, and educational programs in Florida. This initiative aims to create a skilled workforce that can meet the growing demands of the energy industry.

The funding will aid various institutions including the University of Central Florida, University of Florida, and University of South Florida. These funds are allocated for engineering, computer technology, disaster preparedness programming, and career exploration programs among others.

Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, emphasized the importance of these investments in fostering interest in STEM careers. “As the energy industry continues to grow and advance,” she said, “Duke Energy Foundation actively invests in programs that help the future workforce learn and get excited about careers in STEM.”

Mary Chance from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations highlighted Duke Energy’s long-standing partnership with their organization. She noted how this collaboration has provided impactful educational experiences for students over generations.

The grants will also support technology upgrades, mentorship programs, and immersive learning opportunities across various regions including Central Florida and North/North Central areas.

Duke Energy Foundation is known for its philanthropic efforts contributing over $30 million annually to community needs where Duke Energy operates. The foundation is supported by shareholders of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK), which is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., serving millions across several states.
