Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation have announced a $100,000 donation to the One SC Fund, an initiative activated by Governor Henry McMaster to support food banks across South Carolina. The contribution comes as colder weather and the holiday season approach, a time when many families rely on assistance programs that are currently facing funding challenges.
Governor Henry McMaster commented on the donation, stating, “Duke Energy’s contribution to the One SC Fund highlights the very best of South Carolina. At a time when many families are facing uncertainty, Team South Carolina is coming together to support our food banks and put food on the table. I’m grateful for their generosity and hope it will encourage others to join our effort to help families in need.”
Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy in South Carolina, added, “These organizations are fighting the good fight every day in communities across our state, but they cannot do it alone. Duke Energy is happy to stand with the governor, and we encourage other corporate entities, organizations and citizens across the state to help support the fight against hunger.”
In addition to this donation, Duke Energy plans to provide another $500,000 throughout November to at least 60 feeding programs statewide. This is part of its annual campaign addressing food insecurity and will culminate with additional grant announcements on Giving Tuesday.
Since 2021, Duke Energy and its foundation have contributed more than $2.6 million toward agencies working against hunger in South Carolina. The upcoming campaign will also involve employees volunteering with local organizations such as Harvest Hope Food Bank, Mill Village Farms, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, FoodShare South Carolina and AIM.
The company noted that those struggling with food insecurity may also face difficulty paying household bills like electricity. Information about programs designed to help manage energy costs can be found at duke-energy.com/SeasonalSavings.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support for communities served by Duke Energy customers. The foundation is funded by shareholders.
Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric customers across several states including North Carolina and South Carolina and operates 55,100 megawatts of energy capacity. Its natural gas utilities serve 1.7 million customers in multiple states as well.
