As the storm season approaches, Duke Energy Foundation has announced a commitment of $1.5 million through its 2025 Helping Emergency Response Organizations (HERO) grant program. This funding aims to enhance community readiness and resilience across six states by supporting local agencies within Duke Energy’s service areas and continuing its partnership with the American Red Cross.

The foundation is focusing on investing in training, lifesaving equipment, and innovative technology to assist in disaster planning and recovery operations as extreme weather events become more frequent and intense. “These grants are an investment in the resilience of our communities,” said Amy Strecker, president of Duke Energy Foundation. “When the unexpected strikes, our partners on the front lines need resources they can rely on – and we’re proud to help power their efforts.”

Funding distribution includes $500,000 each for North Carolina and South Carolina, $330,000 for Indiana, $163,000 for Florida, and $67,500 for Ohio & Kentucky. Additionally, all jurisdictions will benefit from a $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross.

The grant provided to the Red Cross will expand its Emergency App which offers families real-time alerts and preparedness tips. “When disasters strike, strong partnerships make all the difference,” stated Rebecca Pittman from American Red Cross. The support from Duke Energy Foundation enables better delivery of essential relief services.

Last year saw significant contributions totaling over $900,000 during one of the most destructive storm seasons in recent memory. Over five years, more than $8 million has been granted across several states including Tennessee.

Duke Energy Foundation continues its mission to build a smarter energy future with this new round of funding strengthening their long-standing commitment to emergency preparedness.

Duke Energy serves millions across multiple states with electric utilities owning substantial energy capacity while pursuing cleaner generation methods as part of their transition strategy.
