As temperatures rise during the summer months, Duke Energy Foundation is stepping up to assist families struggling with energy bills. The foundation announced an additional $400,000 contribution to the Share the Light Fund, aimed at helping customers in financial hardship across six states.

The funds are distributed as follows: North Carolina receives $100,000; South Carolina and Florida each receive $75,000; Indiana receives $50,000; and Ohio and Kentucky share $100,000. This funding complements over $11 million in annual support provided since 2022.

Amy Strecker, president of Duke Energy Foundation, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “We know that behind every request for assistance is a story – a family, a friend, a community member working to get through a tough time.” The Share the Light Fund assists nearly 16,000 low-income households annually with various utility-related expenses.

In addition to financial aid, Duke Energy employees volunteer with organizations like Crisis Assistance Ministry to distribute hygiene and energy-saving kits. For over four decades, Duke Energy has supported customers through extreme weather conditions via programs now unified under the Share the Light Fund.

Duke Energy encourages public participation by offering donation options such as rounding up monthly bills. These contributions are matched by Duke Energy and its foundation.

To help manage energy use and costs, Duke Energy provides tools like Usage Alerts and free home energy assessments. Customers can also access payment plans and due date extensions for greater flexibility.

Duke Energy Foundation offers over $30 million annually in philanthropic support funded by shareholders. Duke Energy serves millions of electric and natural gas customers across several states and is focused on transitioning towards cleaner energy solutions.
