Duke Energy Florida announced on Mar. 25 that additional energy bill assistance resources are available for eligible customers, following the removal of storm cost recovery charges from customer bills in February. This change has reduced residential bills by about $44 for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours.
The announcement comes after nearly $30.5 million in energy bill assistance was provided to approximately 31,000 customers in Florida during 2025. The company said these programs aim to help families who may face temporary financial hardship or unexpected challenges.
Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, said, “We know that unexpected challenges can arise, and we’re committed to standing by our customers when they need it most. These programs help provide a safety net for families navigating temporary hardship while keeping their households running.”
Duke Energy Florida partners with community organizations and leverages resources such as the Share The Light Fund, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), FL211.org and others to connect eligible customers with support. Customers seeking payment assistance can use Duke Energy’s Payment Assistance Finder online.
In addition to direct financial aid, Duke Energy offers installment plans for flexible payments and due date extensions ranging from one to ten business days. Seasonal savings tips and energy usage tracking tools are also available to help customers manage their consumption throughout the year.
Duke Energy Florida is a subsidiary of Duke Energy and supplies electricity across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida. The parent company serves millions of electric and natural gas customers across several states while investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources.
