Last night, Duke Energy Florida organized a Neighborhood Energy Saver Program event at the North Greenwood Recreation Center in St. Petersburg. About 75 people attended, although more than 1,400 local customers are eligible to participate. The event aimed to inform residents about the opportunity for a free home energy assessment and ways to reduce their monthly electricity bills.

Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, stated, “Programs like the Neighborhood Energy Saver are one of the many ways we partner with customers and the community to help reduce energy costs. We know our customers are feeling higher costs everywhere, which is why we’re glad to have this opportunity to connect with them and share practical ways to lower their energy bills, while enjoying a meal together.”

Customers who qualify for the program may receive up to 20 free energy-saving improvements for their homes. These include items such as digital room thermometers, energy-efficient showerheads or wands, a year’s supply of AC filters, water-saving faucet aerators for kitchens and bathrooms, efficient lightbulbs, water heater wraps and pipe insulation, covers for window air conditioning units, as well as caulking materials and weatherstripping for doors.

The program is open to both homeowners and renters living in areas identified by Duke Energy Florida through federal and state guidelines along with census data.

Duke Energy reports that since 1981 its efficiency programs have helped Florida customers save nearly $1.25 billion on energy use.

Duke Energy Florida supplies electricity across a 13,000-square-mile area in the state with an owned capacity of 12,500 megawatts. The parent company serves millions of electric and gas customers in several states across the Southeast and Midwest United States.
