Duke Energy is drawing attention to its economic development initiatives in Florida during National Economic Development Week, which runs from May 12 to 16. The company highlights the significant impact of its efforts on the state’s economy over recent years.

Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida’s state president, emphasized the role of their Economic Development team in bolstering local communities. “Our Economic Development team has helped strengthen the communities we serve through their local knowledge and dedication to Florida’s success,” she stated. She added that Duke Energy remains committed to fostering economically vibrant communities and is eager to explore new programs benefiting all of Florida.

Since 2020, Duke Energy’s Economic Development team has been instrumental in attracting or expanding 57 companies within Florida, leading to more than 6,691 jobs and over $2 billion in capital investment. For 21 consecutive years, these efforts have earned recognition from Site Selection Magazine as part of its annual “Top Utilities in Economic Development” list.

The company’s initiatives include several key programs:

– The Site Readiness Program identifies high-potential sites for industrial prospects by collaborating with county officials and local professionals. This program has created 1,650 new jobs and attracted over $545 million in capital investment since 2013.

– In 2024 alone, Duke Energy Florida provided over $890,000 in economic development grants through the Duke Energy Foundation. These grants support various activities such as marketing, research, strategic planning, lead generation and product development.

– Through Project Management services, Duke Energy partners with various economic development organizations at different levels to assist businesses considering expansion or relocation to Florida. This program aims to enhance community competitiveness for business investments.

Beth Cicchetti, executive director of the Florida Economic Development Council, praised the collaborative efforts with Duke Energy: “We are very fortunate to have so many professionals, leaders and businesses that are dedicated to supporting and growing Florida’s economy,” she said. “Duke Energy is one of those key players.”

Duke Energy Florida operates as a subsidiary of Duke Energy with an energy capacity of 12,500 megawatts serving two million customers across a vast service area in the state. The parent company itself is among America’s largest energy holding companies headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., serving millions across multiple states while advancing an ambitious energy transition strategy focused on reliability and cleaner energy solutions.
