Duke Energy and GE Vernova have formed a partnership focused on providing natural gas turbines to address growing energy demands. The arrangement involves plans to advance specific projects for up to 11 7HA gas turbines. This initiative aligns with Duke Energy’s integrated resource plans and supports its strategy to provide reliable energy at manageable costs, while meeting future growth scenarios. This is in addition to the eight 7HA gas turbines that have already been secured.

Harry Sideris, Duke Energy President and CEO, emphasized the importance of securing necessary materials for infrastructure and meeting energy demands, stating, “We value our collaboration with forward-thinking partners who assist us in advancing our energy modernization strategy.”

The agreement is facilitated by GE Vernova’s expansion of its facility in Greenville, South Carolina, aimed at accommodating historic demand for gas turbines. The expansion is part of a nearly $600 million investment in U.S. manufacturing over the next two years. This investment will replace legacy manufacturing processes, create over 1,500 new jobs, and enhance supplier capacity.

“This arrangement with Duke Energy and the significant expansion of our U.S. manufacturing facilities illustrate our ability and commitment to developing innovative solutions,” said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova. “We are proud to be able to supply these Greenville, S.C., manufactured gas turbines to a leading U.S. energy company.”

The new assets will be located at Duke Energy facilities, allowing the use of existing infrastructure, which will reduce costs and speed up time to market.

Duke Energy, a Fortune 150 company based in Charlotte, North Carolina, serves millions of customers with its extensive energy capacity. The company is focusing on a transition to smarter energy, investing in initiatives such as electric grid upgrades and renewable energy sources.

GE Vernova, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a global energy company focusing on electrification and decarbonization. With a strong presence in gas turbine technology, GE Vernova is among the leaders in advancing a lower carbon future while ensuring reliability and sustainability.
