DreamWorks Animation has expanded its partnership with Lenovo, designating the company as its preferred provider for compute services, workstations, and solutions. This collaboration enhances their existing relationship by integrating Lenovo’s technology and services into DreamWorks’ operations. The aim is to provide DreamWorks with the computing power necessary to meet the increasing demands of its creative teams.
Lenovo’s technology has already made a significant impact on DreamWorks’ production processes. The use of Lenovo Neptune liquid cooling resulted in a 20% performance increase, improving render speeds and enabling faster iteration cycles. Additionally, animation programs running on ThinkStation P620s saw a 25% performance boost compared to previous workstations. The company’s infrastructure also supported 98% utilization in DreamWorks’ data center, facilitating 300 million compute hours for projects like “The Wild Robot.”
Kate Swanborg, SVP of Technology Communications and Strategic Alliances at DreamWorks Animation, stated, “Based on our long-standing relationship and Lenovo’s consistent delivery excellence, expanding our collaboration was a natural next step.” She emphasized that this partnership provides DreamWorks with the flexibility and operational scale needed to achieve its business goals.
Ken Wong, Executive Vice President and President of Solutions and Services Group at Lenovo, highlighted the importance of advanced technologies in supporting complex creative workflows. He noted that this partnership demonstrates how trusted technology can drive performance and innovation in filmmaking.
Lenovo’s offerings include high-performance hardware such as ThinkStation and ThinkPad P Series Workstations and ThinkSystem Servers. They also provide TruScale Infrastructure as a Service, allowing DreamWorks to scale resources on demand while maintaining control over their infrastructure.
The partnership extends beyond hardware; Lenovo offers Premier Support Plus for continuous assistance and minimal downtime. This support is crucial in helping DreamWorks meet aggressive production targets.
Looking forward, Lenovo will continue to assist DreamWorks in optimizing operational processes through AI-optimized infrastructure. Although DreamWorks does not currently use AI for imagery generation, they are exploring its potential to enhance production efficiency.
Bill Ballew, CTO for DreamWorks Animation, expressed enthusiasm about engaging with Lenovo’s AI teams to further optimize their computing infrastructure. Ken Wong added that this partnership serves as a model for how enterprises can leverage integrated technology for creative excellence.
