A trail at DuPont State Recreational Forest is temporarily closed for improvements. The two and a half mile Burnt Mountain Trail is undergoing enhancements to support recreational use, increase sustainability, reduce erosion, and protect nearby water quality.
“We are excited to invest in this valuable trail for generations to come,” stated Jane Dauster, recreation specialist for DSRF. She noted that new features are being added for water drainage and rock armoring is being used to stabilize the trail surface.
Rock armoring involves using natural stone on the trail surface, which helps maintain the trails’ character while improving sustainability and environmental protection.
Jason Guidry, forest supervisor at DSRF, said: “Improvements to Burnt Mountain Trail will protect the natural areas surrounding the trail while enhancing the recreational experience for multiple user groups.”
