Apple has announced a series of new accessibility features set to be released later this year. Among these is the introduction of Accessibility Nutrition Labels, which will provide detailed information about the accessibility features available in apps and games on the App Store. This initiative aims to help users who are blind or have low vision by offering tools such as the new Magnifier app for Mac and Braille Access feature.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to accessibility, stating, “At Apple, accessibility is part of our DNA. Making technology for everyone is a priority for all of us, and we’re proud of the innovations we’re sharing this year.”
Sarah Herrlinger, Apple’s senior director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives, added, “Building on 40 years of accessibility innovation at Apple, we are dedicated to pushing forward with new accessibility features for all of our products.”
The Accessibility Nutrition Labels will highlight features like VoiceOver and Voice Control on App Store product pages. Eric Bridges from the American Foundation for the Blind remarked that these labels represent “a huge step forward for accessibility,” enabling consumers to make informed decisions.
Additionally, updates include systemwide reading modes with Accessibility Reader and enhancements to Live Listen on Apple Watch. The company also announced improvements to visionOS using Apple Vision Pro’s camera system.
Other updates involve Personal Voice becoming more efficient through machine learning and artificial intelligence advancements. Moreover, Vehicle Motion Cues will now be available on Mac.
Apple continues its efforts in making its products accessible by introducing these features across various devices including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.
