Apple has unveiled iPadOS 26, marking a significant update for its tablet operating system. The new release introduces a range of features aimed at enhancing user experience and functionality.

The updated iPadOS includes a redesigned interface with Liquid Glass, which adds a dynamic and translucent aesthetic to the device. Users can expect improved personalization options for their Home Screen, along with updates to app icons and controls in applications like Mail, Safari, Apple TV, and Apple Music.

A notable addition is the new windowing system that allows users to resize app windows and organize them more efficiently. This feature is complemented by Exposé, which provides an overview of open windows for easier navigation. The integration with Stage Manager offers further organizational capabilities.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, commented on the release: “iPadOS 26 is our biggest iPadOS release ever, with powerful features that take the experience to the next level and transform what users can do on iPad.”

Apple Intelligence has been expanded across iPadOS 26, introducing Live Translation in Phone, FaceTime, and Messages. This feature automatically translates texts into the user’s preferred language and provides live captions during calls.

The update also brings enhancements to creative tools such as Genmoji and Image Playground. Users can modify emoji attributes or create unique images using ChatGPT styles. Shortcuts have been upgraded with intelligent actions for more complex automation tasks.

File management sees improvements with an enhanced Files app offering customizable folders and better document organization. The Preview app debuts on iPad for viewing and editing PDFs using Apple Pencil Markup.

For audio professionals, new features include Background Tasks for long-running processes and advanced audio input selection. Voice Isolation enhances recorded audio quality by reducing ambient noise interference.

iPadOS 26 also introduces Journal for capturing daily moments through multimedia entries and Apple Games app for gaming enthusiasts. Messaging enhancements include personalized conversation backgrounds and group chat improvements.

Additional updates encompass accessibility features like Accessibility Reader and Braille Access improvements. A public beta will be available next month via the Apple Beta Software Program before a full release this fall as a free update across various iPad models.
