The DP World Tour and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered a strategic partnership, naming AWS as the Official Cloud Provider for the global golf tour. The agreement aims to use AWS’s cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to change how media, spectators, and players experience tournaments.

Under the partnership, AWS Media Services will be used to stream live and on-demand video content. This will include fast-round compilations of selected players and new digital features for fans watching on television or online. These features are expected to offer data-driven insights and shot commentary in multiple languages using generative AI.

“Building an AI system that understands golf’s nuances is incredibly complex,” said Nina Walsh, Global Leader, Industry Business Development for Media, Entertainment, Games, and Sports at AWS. “Imagine following a crucial shot on your mobile device and instantly understanding not just the distance, but the historical success rate, the impact of the wind, or how the player performs under pressure – all narrated in your preferred language. That’s the experience we want to deliver to every golf fan worldwide.”

The DP World Tour plans to upgrade its content management with an AI-powered Media Asset Management system that automatically tags metadata. This should create a searchable archive capable of identifying players, shots, and moments quickly. Fans will be able to access more personalized digital offerings about their favorite players.

For event spectators, AWS will enhance the Tour’s “Virtual Twin” product—a digital replica of each course that processes over one million data points per tournament. This technology combines historical information with current conditions and predictive analytics so fans can follow action from any hole via venue screens or mobile devices.

Operationally, DP World Tour teams will gain access to a new intelligence platform powered by Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Quick Suite. The platform will process real-time data from various sources to support decisions such as staff deployment or advising fans about queue lengths at concessions.

Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer at the DP World Tour stated: “A golf tournament is one of the most complex events to deliver in professional sport. Instead of a single stadium, we are building a smart city every week, often in remote locations. That is then replicated in 26 different countries around the world, all with different infrastructure requirements. With our tournament services now hosted in AWS, we will be able to deliver a connected and intelligent course with greater consistency and reliability wherever we are in the world.”

In line with its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040, DP World Tour will use AWS’s “Green Drive Live” data platform to monitor energy use and environmental impacts during events in real time. Machine learning models within this platform can simulate operational scenarios before events begin for better sustainability planning; live emissions dashboards will display key metrics both onsite and within apps.

Since 2024, remote production for broadcasts has helped reduce each tournament’s carbon footprint by about 87 tonnes; expanding cloud-based production through AWS may further increase these efficiencies.

AWS has provided cloud computing services since 2006 across more than 120 Availability Zones globally; it currently offers over 240 fully featured services covering areas such as compute power storage databases machine learning security media application development among others.

The DP World Tour organizes men’s professional golf competitions across at least 42 tournaments annually in 26 countries under three main phases: ‘Global Swings’, ‘Back 9’, and ‘DP World Tour Play-Offs’. Its season includes five Rolex Series events—the top tier—and four Major Championships contributing toward its Race to Dubai Rankings.

DP World has been title partner since 2022; it specializes in end-to-end supply chain logistics solutions worldwide.
